He became employed as a staff writer for Pravda newspaper. From 1965 to 1969, he worked in-house as a Pravda’s correspondent in the Middle East, meeting with many politicians and community figures

He obtained the degree of Doctor of Economics (Soviet-specific) by defending his thesis on the topic titled Social and Economic Development of Egypt at IMEMO.

He took the position of Deputy Director of the IMEMO of the USSR Academy of Sciences

He was elected a Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, and a Full Member in 1979

He was appointed Director of the IMEMO (until 1989). His activity in this position was related to the period of growth of the Institute’s authority in the country and in the world.
